In 2005 a group of seasoned and young Game Fishers approached the South Australian Game Fishing Association with the view to setting up a club that primarily catered for trailer boat anglers.
They were informed that an old club existed but lay dormant. Discussions were held and the decision was made to re-register the club. This enabled it active, and soon they were away – the rest as they say is history.
These Foundation Members held decades of collective Game Fishing experience as well as having held senior administrative positions at Club, State and IGFA levels – a solid foundation on which to build a new Club.
From humble beginnings the Adelaide Game Fishing Club has continued to grow and has attracted membership from some of the State’s best game fishermen.
The AGFC membership currently stands at 65 who hail from all parts of the State. Although the majority of members are from Adelaide the Club is extremely proud to have members from several regional locations including the South East, Port Augusta, Whyalla, Port Lincoln and the greater Adelaide district.
The Club cherishes the opportunity to see its Family members getting involved also, with partners and kids regularly featuring in the action.
Members boats range from 15 to 40 feet which sees anglers fishing in a host of varying locations. From trolling beyond the shelf to sight casting in the shallows, the AGFC’s members are involved in an extremely broad range of fishing styles. Land based fishing is also very popular and gives Members even more opportunity to get involved.
The AGFC prides itself on being inclusive rather than elitist whilst promoting responsible, sustainable and ethical fishing practices through an emphasis on Tag & Release.
AGFC Members hold numerous State, Australian and World Records as well as a number of Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA) Awards for Tag & Release – quite an achievement from a young Club.
Aside from Records, the AGFC’s unique award list encourages the individual to personally challenge themselves through their fishing endeavours and broaden their skills and understanding of the sport.
Several different Tournaments and Club Trips make up the Club Calendar. The various locations can see Members trailering their craft to where the fish are depending on the season, giving them access to some great fishing opportunities right across the State.
General Meetings are an informal affair held at the Seven Stars Hotel. These nights create a relaxed environment for Members to catch up over a meal and more importantly, the latest info on where they are biting!
If you would like any more information about the Club or any of its activities, please don’t hesitate to contact them through the website.
