APRIL – JUNE 13-14

News just to hand is that AGFC member Matt Forrest has had his Australian Record Samson Fish application approved!  Matt is now the holder of the State and Australian Samson Fish record for the 10kg line class.  The previous record was 31.2kg.  Matt landed the 32.30kg fish last September and is now the only South Aussie who holds an Australian Record for Samson Fish! Congratulations Matt on what is a very impressive, and thoroughly deserved record.
Club President Brad Smith also recently had a State and Australian Record approved.  He landed an 8.6kg Eagle Ray on 2kg last November.  It has been acknowledged in the Land Based section.  The 2kg record was previously vacant.
Please remember that the GFAA recognises Land Based Records separately.  It is also worth noting that if you see a line class which doesn’t appear under a particular species, the chances are the record is probably vacant…. and waiting for you to grab it!

April 20th – Adam Todd lands a BIG SBT, which will be a pending State Record!

Exciting times down at Port Mac today where AGFC Member Adam Todd has landed the fish of a lifetime!  Fishing on board Shaka Zura with club stalwarts Dennis and Kerry Heinicke, Adam landed his dream fish in just 45 minutes.  Back on land it went 116kg! –  which means Adam is now set to apply for the 37kg State record for Southern Bluefin Tuna.  Congratulations Adam and to all involved on a very impressive capture.

April 28th – More massive Tuna at Port Mac, this time it’s Dennis and Fady!

Dennis Heinicke – aka Mr Tuna, has done it!  After several decades of chasing Southern Bluefin, Dennis has finally got himself a barrel.  Not from lack of effort or time at sea, as Dennis has seen more SBT come over the gunnels of Shaka Zura than most of us have had hot dinners!  His fish weighed in at 99kg, a great fish for one of the AGFC’s most respected anglers. Congratulations Dennis…..and Kerry (you’re next!)

If there are fish being caught, it’s a fair bet that you’ll find Fady Dib somewhere close by.  He too got in on the action down at Port Mac recently and managed to land a 64kg Southern Bluefin out of his own boat, Storm Tamer
Another awesome fish for a member who puts in an extreme amount of effort regularly.  He too has been looking for his trophy Tuna for quite a few years, it is brilliant to see these special fish being landed by guys who
have done the miles.   Well done Fady!

May 17th – Weight Recorder’s Report

Good Evening All,

Hopefully you have been out enjoying our balmy Autumn weather?

As you would know a number of our members have been out chasing big Bluefin Tuna at Port MacDonnell.  A number were successful in catching their dream fish: congratulations to Adam Todd, Dennis Heinicke, Fady Dib and also Paul Rogers.

It’s great to see people like Dennis and Toddy rewarded for their years of perseverance.  Kerry Heinicke came ever so close to landing her barrel, I’m sure the next one she hooks is in BIG trouble!

Congratulations to Matt Forrest on his Samson captures.  Matt specifically targets hard fighting Samson Fish on light pre-tested line and carefully releases his fish after weighing.

It was great to see Matt Baird score a nice Mulloway off the south coast beaches, hopefully he didn’t have to put in too many cold nights to achieve it.

Jamie Crawford was lucky enough to visit Exmouth and managed to tag two Black Marlin.  It is very timely that we now have the interstate trophy – sponsored by Wilson Tackle.  Anybody chasing big Tuna at Portland will also be eligible for this trophy.  The trophy is awarded to the most significant capture outside of South Australian waters.

As can be seen on the most recent point score update, huge numbers of Kingfish and Samson Fish have been tagged at Port Augusta and Coffin Bay.  Normally Southern Bluefin dominates but the Coffin Bay grounds have been very productive this season.

Please note that to be eligible for the champion angler in capture and tag and release, a shark, eagle ray and gamefish must be recorded.  Please contact me if you have any queries.

We have also received stocks of pink tags for those that require them

There is still time to improve your point scores or chase your Grand Slam.

Good Fishing
