August 2012 – Pending State Record

Recently John Marsh and Brad Smith travelled to Whyalla to fish with Andrew Sammut.

Latest News Pic #2Good catches of big Snapper were being taken regularly in the Rip at Pt Lowly, and it was after repeated offers from Andrew that the boys decided to hit the road and make a weekend of it.

Some great fish were landed between 8 and 10 kg, providing some good light line action.Latest News Pic #1

However John stole the show, landing a solid fish of 9.2kg on 3kg line – A Pending State Record – a fine effort in 90 feet of water.  Brad landed a 9.0kg fish only minutes earlier on 3kg as part of a double hook up.  This only rubbed more salt into the wounds as John’s Pending State Record if approved will beat the existing State Record of 8.2kg on 3kg……held by Brad!

ps. thanks to Club Member Rod Leith for travelling down from Port Augusta to take some pics for us!

September 2012 – Dennis and Kerry tag 18 Sailfish in 3 days!

P9240025South East stalwarts Dennis and Kerry Heinicke recently returned from a ‘relaxing’ week in Broome.

They chartered a boat for 3 days and were rewardP9240058ed with some red hot Sailfish action. On the first day, they tagged 9 fish!

With multiple hook ups the norm rather than the exception, they sighted at least 100 free swimming Sails over their stay, and at one time had no fewer than 26 swimming around their boat, amazing stuff. Sounds like a bad place to be a baitfish!

All 18 fish were caught on 10kg, simply outstanding fishing.

September 2012 – Pending State and Australian Record

Junior Member Shannon Durnell has just submitted a State and Australian Record Claim – for a 6.05kg Australian Carp which she recently landed on 1kg line!

If approved, the capture will beat the existing mark of 4.07kg held by Kim Bain, which was landed back in 1995.

The claim has been submitted in both the Junior and Womens categories for State and Australian recognition.

An outstanding example of light tackle angling, congratulations Shannon!
