October 2012 – Yellowtail Kingfish Re-Capture

Brett Mensforth recently landed a tagged Yellowtail Kingfish at Port Augusta, the fish was estimated at around 14kg and was re-released.

It was originally tagged on board Absolute Fishing Charters, skippered by AGFC member Ryan Carlisle.

Tim Simpson, editor of BlueWater was the lucky angler who originally tagged the fish and estimated it to be around 8kg.

This is the 1st concrete evidence that the offshore population of Kings do interact with the gulfs in SA. Very exciting stuff!

Thanks to Tim for helping to provide yet another intriguing piece of our SA Kingfish puzzle!

October 2012 – Yellowtail Kingfish Re-capture

Club Member Richard Kozuszko recently re-captured a tagged Yellowtail King in Coffin Bay.

The tag number was recorded and after a quick measure the fish was once again released.

The interesting part of the story is that the fish was originally tagged by his fishing buddy Fady Dib on exactly the same date – 12 months earlier from the same boat, It must have recognised them!

The fish had grown from a measured 137cm to 143cm (t/l) and had put on a couple of kilos to now be estimated at around 32kg.

Well done to all involved and keep up the great work!

Good Afternoon Members,
There has been a lot of recordings over the last month or so, please check the attached Point Score.
Highlights include Shannon Durnell’s record Carp, Fady’s record snapper, Brad and Alan’s Kingfish and Jason Stephenson’s Samson Fish.
Several member’s broadened their horizons with trips to more remote locations. Adon’s trip to Fowler’s Bay included regular visits from Murphys Law, including hooking himself, 8 hour bogging and a mini tornado through his camp-site! Congratulations to Mark and Damon on their trip to Cairns for Marks 50th birthday. I haven’t got the full story but believe Mark tagged a 150 kg Black Marlin!
Recordings for the November shark and eagle ray competition have been slow due to a lack of sharks off St Kilda. Recordings have been received from the west coast, KI, and St Kilda. At present it appears Rhys has been rewarded for his efforts taking out both sections including two big Bronzies. It was pleasing to see almost all captures were tagged or weighed and released.
Due to Fisheries regulations the club will NOT be accepting snapper tag points from 1st to 15th December as it is an offence to tag or release snapper during the extension. Please contact a committee member for clarification!

November 17th 2012 – SAGFA AGM

October 2012 – Pending Yellowtail Kingfish Record

Club President, Brad Smith recently submitted a State / Australian Record claim for the Mens 8kg Yellowtail Kingfish Record.  With a SMITH Baby Runboh stick bait in use, the fish was landed after a very nervous 45 minute fight.  When later weighed back on land, the Kingy pulled the needle down to 26.4kg.  Congratulations Brad, on a very fine capture indeed
