October 5th – One Happy Queenslander!

You may recall that back in January I was presented with an opportunity to fish the Light Tackle Masters Tournament with the Gold Coast Game Club.  The skipper who offered me a ride, Andrew Ryan showed enormous interest in the big Yellowtail Kings which I kept telling him aboDSCN9286ut.  Anyway, from that day the planning began into how he could get down here to have a shot at a big hoodlum.  He decided to make a holiday of it, and drove down to SA with the Wife and kids in tow!  I am stoked to report that last weekend we met up again, this time in Port Augusta (bit like the Gold Coast, just not as many tall buildings…) and all of the hard work paid off!  Andrew landed a couple of big Kingies, both on poppers – the biggest being 26kg!  He could not believe how hard these fish pull, and was seriously impressed with their sheer power, even against the heavy drag settings in use.   It was great to get such a reward after so many miles travelled – well done!  (Andrew also had the opportunity to see a true giant of a Yellowtail weighed in the boat adjacent – their fish pulled the scales down to 46kg!)

banner ad

From today, Adelaide Game Fishing Club members will have yet another perpetual trophy to chase each season.

We are pleased to announce that long time sponsor WILSON FISHING has stepped up once again, to help promote this new offering from the AGFC.  The trophy will be awarded each season to ‘ The Most Outstanding Angling Achievement – Outside SA Waters ‘

Some AGFC members travel interstate and even overseas each year, in hot pursuit of that fish of a lifetime.  It was agreed that efforts such as this deserve to be recognised at a club level.

As the name suggests, it will be awarded to the most outstanding angling achievement.  This could mean that the winner is the guy who tows his boat to Portland and lands an 80kg SBT, maybe it will be the guy who tags 10 Sails in an afternoon at Broome?  It could even be the guy who travels to PEI and releases a 300kg Bluefin.  The winner will be selected at the conclusion of each season.

November 26th – DATE CHANGED – Christmas Drinks

Members are reminded that the date for our last catch up of 2013 has been changed.

We are now meeting on Tuesday 10th December at 7:00pm

Any questions – contact a committee member.  We look forward to seeing you there!

November 30th – Weight Recorder’s Report

Season’s Greetings!!

The last few months have been hectic for our kingfish fanatics, with close to 100 fish tagged at Port Augusta and Coffin Bay.  Adam Todd has christened his new toy with around thirty kings and was generous in hosting a number of club members for successful trips.  Matt Kris has also been a regular visitor with considerable success. Fady and the Coffin Bay regulars have also enjoyed numerous kingfish tags.  Steve Bence also captured his first big King at Port Augusta, congratulations!  Matt Forrest captured a great kingie of 13.5kg on 6kg braid!  It took Matt over an hour to land the fish from an offshore location, great job!

Several members travelled to Fowler’s Bay chasing big mulloway but the fish remained elusive.  They did score good numbers of big salmon including a club record of a 3.93kg salmon on 2kg line for Brandon Poynter.

New member Daniel Brown from Port Lincoln, has been racking up the points tagging heaps of big salmon off the beaches.

The November Shark and Eagle Ray Competition has been very quiet with only a few Eagle Rays caught in the Port River.  Hopefully shark numbers will improve with more stable weather (ie – I’m sick of getting blown off the water!)

Please keep in mind the Summer Light Tackle Challenge over the holidays.  This is also a good time to dust off the heavy tackle for those enjoy BIG sharks.

Looking forward to some exciting captures over the next few months so keep those lines in the water and bananas out of the boats!

Merry Christmas and safe boating!
